I’ve been working on some animations for a friend. He’s been a streamer a little longer than I’ve been and the longer he continues to stream, the more his channel name rings true. Here’s his channel: http://www.twitch.tv/oldmangamur

If you’re looking for an entertaining stream, his should definitely be on the list of most entertaining you follow. Especially if he’s streaming a horror game.

Anyway, here’s the transition I made him:

Both projects helped me develop my skills in After Effects. In both projects I created compositions that will allow me to quickly modify the artwork used. I’m fairly confident with the skills I have, but it doesn’t hurt to step out of my comfort zone for the sake of building on those skills.

This also inspired me to look into some freelance work. So I opened up a Fiverr selling account that I’ll be posting gigs on real soon. Fiverr offers a great platform for those of us that love to tinker in Adobe applications. Plus, I need gigs to keep me focused otherwise I’ll get lost in a game all day

Those gigs will also help fund the future ideas for both this site, the twitch channel and eventually the games that have been swimming around in my head for years. More about all of this in the posts to come.

I haven’t had a chance to meet any of you readers, but I want to say thank you for coming around. With Fallout 76 coming out in just a few days, I’ve been in the mood for cranking out nuclear themed animations lately. 4 days ago I posted a Fallout themed tv overlay. And now, this Pipboy overlay.

Obviously I’m a fan of Fallout. I’ve played every release since the original, but I’m not the type to be able to recite lines or recall a specific mission. The graphics definitely stick in my mind though. I made this Pipboy overlay with the same ingame interface in mind. 

Download the .zip file, extract it, add the .webm file as a media source and tick the loop box. Now, stack the overlay above your webcam and viola!

Webcam Recommendation: Add a color correction filter to your webcam source in SLOBS. Just right click the source and select filters, hit the + and select color correction. I recommend using either a black and white or green tint to your webcam to make the effect pop.

You can achieve a black and white effect by reducing the saturation to 0. The green tint is achieved by modifying the color selection at the bottom of the color correction window.

General Tips For Streaming Fallout 76

I haven’t played the game yet but I’ve seen plenty of game play to have a few tips on general. 

First and most obvious – bring a buddy with you. The wasteland finally allows for multiplayer game play and it actually favors those who travel together. So make sure you bring someone with you to help fend off the nuked, feral inhabitants! 

Your SPECIAL and perks work a little different than usual. With each level you get to assign a point to your SPECIAL. Perks are issued periodically and work in coordination with your SPECIAL. So if you have 3 points assigned to Strength, a maximum of 3 Strength specific perk cards can be used. BUT! You can change your SPECIAL however you’d like to suit the cards you’ve gathered. 

And finally – a tip that is useful when streaming any game – fill the dead air with content. There’s a lot of open space in Fallout 76. A lot of which will likely be spent running. Viewers tend to get bored watching people just jogging thru the grassy hills. Be prepared to fill that downtime with entertainment.

Fallout 76 will be out in just a few weeks! I figured what better time to create a cool Fallout 76 Overlay than now? From what I’ve seen on streams, there’s plenty of room around the capture area to place an old, deteriorating tv that displays a nuclearized version of your webcam. Just place this webm file over your webcam to achieve the same effect I’ve created shown above. More specifically:

Add source > Media Source > Name it > Add New Source > Browse > Select the FreeFallout76 Overlay.webm file > Open > Tick Loop

Now just layer your webcam underneath the TV and size your webcam accordingly by holding shift and dragging the corners.
